In Iran, every book begins on the first page with the expression "In the name of God", or "In the name of God, the merciful, the beneficient", which is also on hotel bills, formal emails, even the safety instructions on inland flights. Similarly, the name or names of Allah ( ﷲ ) are very popular visual elements in islamic art, calligraphy, building decorations, ceramics, and nowadays also posters. Below are some favorite motives that were displayed in an accompanying exhibition. Animals made from persian characters are frequent, for example lions as a symbol for the courage of Imam Ali, or birds. The grand-prix winning poster of Mehdi Saeedi has it's roots in these traditions. |
