The POSTER BIBLIOGRAPHY lists about 180 literature references on posters by Armin Hofmann, i.e. not including publications on graphic design in general, teaching, typography and so on. The earliest is from 1948, when his poster Housing development in Switzerland 1938-47 was among the Best Swiss Posters of the Year. A good many of the publications are auction catalogues from the big international poster dealers, so clearly his work has generated more than just academic interest.

The book by H. Wichmann (1989), see below, is the main reference on Hofmann. It also includes a bibliography on Hofmann's activities outside of posters, as well as publications by Hofmann himself, for example his famous textbook Methodik der Form- und Bildgestaltung - Aufbau, Synthese, Anwendung ; Arthur Niggli, Teufen (CH)(1965).
