The Kunsthalle, an art museum, often had exhibitions with two ore more artists. This lead to a series of posters with one or two large letters for the artists initials.

The next group of posters look like exercises out of his textbook Graphic Design Manual: Principles and Practice, playing with shapes and their spatial relations, as a prerequisite for typography.

In his theater posters, Hofmann experimented with photography, evoking the atmosphere of a live performance on the stage, while the concert posters are more abstract.

A museum poster designers walks the narrow path between just depicting the objects and putting himself in front of them. And sometimes he must forsake culture and work on various other subjects.
