Hommage a Krzysztof Dydo

Krzyzstof Dydo sent me the catalogue of the latest
Festiwal Plakatu w Krakowie which has now become the most important poster event
in Poland, apart from the International Poster Biennial in Warsaw. A festival of this kind is always the result of the work of a large number of people
but there is no doubt that Krzyzstof Dydo is one of the main driving forces behind it, and has carefully built it up since 1999.
Dydo has been collecting posters since he was a boy, runs a poster gallery in the center of old Cracow since 1985, has written numerous books and probably organized more poster exhibitions internationally than anybody else. His daughter Agnieszka, an art history student at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, is writing a thesis on the work of her father, and has come up with about 350 exhibitions, from Beijing to Mexico, Tehran to London, the latest news comes from Jerusalem. Dydo also has an eye and a heart for new talent, and helps young and unknown artists by promoting them and giving them commissions to design posters for his gallery or his exhibitions, below are some recent examples. Polish graphic designers that are now well known like Roman Kalarus, Mieczyslaw Gorowski, Leszek Zebrowski or Wieslaw Grzegorczyk have all enjoyed Dydo's early support. Dzienkuje barzo, Krzysztof !
