"Who's the boss ?". Under this title, the 12th poster festival of Chaumont has decided to address the issue of orders by companies and institutions and what this entails. The international competition, on the other hand, in order to build up a coherent collection of posters which will be conserved by the town in its "médiatheque les silos" - until such time as a museum exists -, is required to open its doors each year to the various sectors in which "author" posters still exist. By addressing the situation, which is globally that of the cultural poster, we were able to focus on the issue of orders which will be the theme of the festival's exhibitions and debates. That said, the competition is open to all exhibition posters, whether from private companies or state-run bodies. It of course also encompasses posters which deal with cultural policy, of whatever nature. To avoid superfluity, theatre and music posters, together with subjects recently covered at Chaumont, will not be included in the competition this year. Within these limits, the competition is thus open. As to Chaumont, if it is to continue to be the centre of discussion and debate that we want it to be, it must necessarily ask the questions that are relevant to graphists, and by extension, to graphics in general. An incomplete entry form will be considered grounds for exclusion from the competition. For poster formats greater than 120 x 160 cm, a slide is obligatory. If the poster entered is a collective effort, the names of each artist must be marked on the entry form. The organizers reserve the right to use all information provided by the artist, as well as the right to publish or otherwise reproduce all posters entered in the competition, to ensure the promotion of the festival and of any books or catalogues published on that occasion and as part of the festival.
