CALL FOR ENTRIES
INTRODUCTION
The "East + West" International College Students Poster Biennial is sponsored by Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, one of the eight leading art academies in China. The Biennial aims to foster graphic design education and culture exchange with other countries and regions. The previous 1st and 2nd Biennials, held in 2006 and 2008 respectively, were successfully organized and well received by the design students, educators and professions both at homeland and abroad.
In celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, the 3rd "East + West" International College Students Poster Biennial will be held both in Beijing and Wuhan in September 2010, The international jury consists of members with diversified cultural backgrounds, including Mr. Bob Coonts and Prof. William Kelly from the United States, Mr. Subrata Bhowmick from India, Mr. Fang Chen, a Chinese professor residing in the United States and Dr. Wladyslaw Serwatowski from Poland.

The biennial competition is judged in two phases by two different jury panels. The first phase will be conducted by 5 Chinese renowned graphic design professors. They will select a shortlist for exhibition. All the selected posters will be printed in the size of 50cm × 70cm and then forwarded to the second phase of judging.

ENTRY CATEGORIES
(A) Thematic Poster: Origin
Contestants need to express their point of view on the theme "Origin" and present a new graphic approach to represent the meaning of the word.
(B) Free subject Poster
Public-interest posters, Cultural posters or Commercial posters and so on.
AWARDS
1 "East + West" Grand Prix
Chinese Yuan (CNY) 10000 cash, plus one Wacom Intuos 4 PTK1240 (worth CNY 5900) and a certificate for one winner.
1 Gold Prize
Chinese Yuan (CNY) 5000 cash, plus one Wacom Intuos 4 PTK840 (worth CNY 3900) and a certificate for one winner.
3 Silver Prizes
Chinese Yuan (CNY) 3000 cash, plus a Wacom Bamboo FUN661 (worth CNY 1580) and a certificate for each of the three winners.
6 Bronze Prizes
Chinese Yuan (CNY) 1000 cash, plus a Wacom Bamboo FUN461 (worth CNY 880) and a certificate for each of the six winners.
50 Excellent Work Prizes
A certificate for each of the fifty prizewinners
Selected Work Diplomas
All selected participants will receive a diploma.
PARTICIPATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. The "East + West" International College Students Poster Biennial is open to all undergraduate and graduate students of art colleges and universities.
2. Entries accepted from individual students as well as groups of students. Number of works submitted is unlimited.
3. Entry work should be printed on A4 paper or in the size of 11×8.5 inches, landscape or portrait (mounting not required). Works submitted must be accompanied by Entry Form and Entry Label filled in print letters. One label per work must be attached to the back of the work with adhesive tape. Make a copy of the Entry Form if necessary.
4. A full-colors catalogue will be published for the Biennale. In order to be reproduced for the exhibition and catalogue, all entries should be supplied with their electronic versions on a CD or a DVD. The files should be compatible with Mac OS or Microsoft Windows. Image dimensions: 50cm × 70cm, TIFF or JPEG formats, resolution no less than 300 dpi (CMYK).
ENTRY DEADLINE
All entries must be received at the committee office of the Biennial address by post on or before July 15, 2010.
COPYRIGHTS
1. Entries should be creations of the entrants. All matters regarding design copyright of the entry will be at the responsibility of the entrant.
2. The organizing committee could disqualify the entrant if there were any intellectual property or copyrights problems or conflicts about the entry work.
3. Please note that all submitted works and CDs/DVDs remain in the "East + West" Biennale collection and are not to be returned. The organizing committee has the right to exhibit and publish biennial works for non-commercial purposes. The author must sign the entry form, which indicates his/her acceptance of the terms and conditions of the contest.
