CODE – THE CREATE BERLIN POSTER CONTEST 2009 "UNESCO CITY OF DESIGN" Berlin is one of five UNESCO Cities of Design. And it's the starting point for a big combinend billboard design competition. Every metropolis has a face – a design – a visual CODE. CREATE BERLIN explores the Code of Berlin: what defines the city, what is your image of Berlin? Berlin provides 2000 empty billboards - show us, in the centre of the city, how you think it displays its face to the outside world: here and now, tomorrow, or throughout the long course of its changing history. Since 2006, Berlin is Europe’s first and only "UNESCO-City of Design". The title "CODE" stands for "City Of DEsign" and also for the visual key of Berlin. During the citywide exhibition in Berlin we will also show 20 of the best works from Montreal, where a similar action took place, and will consequently travel to the other "UNESCO Cities of Design" with the 20 favourites from Berlin. Submit a showcase of your work on an A1 poster and send it around the world with CREATE BERLIN. The Jury: Juergen Siebert, Fons Hickmann, Annemarie Jaeggi, Raban Ruddigkeit, Daniel Wall, Frederic Gautier The creators of the 20 favourite motifs will receive a free feature of their work in the accompanying publication that will be available free of charge in all "UNESCO Cities of Design". The Top 3 will receive an extra prize money in cash: 3rd Prize: 1.000 Euro 2nd Prize: 1.250 Euro 1st Prize: 1.500 Euro Furthermore, we would like to offer the 3 winners the voluntary chance to go about their daily creative practice for 1 month in one of the "UNESCO Cities of Design" Montreal, Buenos Aires and Berlin. All 3 winners will be provided with a workplace and accommodation for free for the full duration of the month. Wir wollen die Symbole, Formen, Farben und Geschichten, die aus Berlin die "UNESCO-City of Design" machen, in den Stadtraum bringen. Was bedeutet Berlin in der Geschichte, der Gegenwart und natuerlich in der Zukunft? In Musik und Kunst? Im Alltag der Gestalter von Design, Mode und Architektur? Eure Arbeiten machen die Identitaet der Stadt aus – zeigt uns die Inhalte eurer Archive! Wir suchen nach bereits veroeffentlichten oder unveroeffentlichten Arbeiten, die ihr zeigen moechtet in der groessten Werkschau der Stadt. Stellt euch vor und euren ganz persoenlichen Teil des "CODE"! Und werdet Teil einer Botschafterreise durch die weiteren UNESCO Cities of Design: Kobe/Nagoya, Buenos Aires, Shenzen und Montreal. Preise: Die Gestalter der 20 Favoriten erhalten eine kostenlose Veroeffentlichung ihrer Arbeiten in der begleitenden Publikation. Die 3 besten daraus erhalten ausserdem von einer der UNESCO Cities Berlin, Montreal und Buenos Aires die Moeglichkeit, fuer einen Monat vor Ort ihrer kreativen Taetigkeit nachzugehen. Allen 3 Gewinnern wird fuer den gesamten Monat ein Arbeitsplatz und eine Unterkunft kostenfrei zur Verfuegung gestellt.
