In memory of Morteza Momayez, the president of Tehran International Poster Biennial and the founder of Graphic Design Biennial in Iran.

Further to the successful and spectacular 8th Tehran International Poster Biennial 2004 which in addition to introducing Iranian graphic design to the world also saw many Iranian designers reach acclaim; the 9th Tehran International Poster Biennial is being organized by Iranian Graphic Designers Society (IGDS) with the cooperation of Visual Arts Affairs Office, the Institute for Promotion of Visual Arts, and the Saba Cultural and Artistic Institute. The Biennial is endorsed by International Council of Graphic Design Associations (ICOGRADA).

Competition: The 9th Tehran International Poster Biennial has two categories and will be held from October 8 - November 4, 2006


Category A:
1) All posters must have cultural and social themes.
2) All entries must be designed and printed after February 2004.
3) Entries must be no smaller than 45x60 cm and no larger than 120x180 cm.
4) Participants may submit up to three works per artist or group (sets of posters that constitute a single work will be accepted).
5) Only printed posters by offset or silkscreen prints are accepted.

Category B:
1) All posters must be with the theme of "Koran, the Holy Book"
2) In this part it is obligatory to insert the sentence "The 9th Tehran International Posters Biennial 2006" in the posters.
3) Only digital prints are accepted.
4) All entries must be 120x84 cm, vertical only.
5) Each participant may submit one work only.

Entry Deadline:
All entries in both categories must be received at the 9th Tehran International Poster Biennial secretariat address by mail before September 7, 2006.

Entry rules:
1) An entry form must be filled in and sent to the secretariat of the biennial. Information on the entry form will be used in the exhibition's catalogue and biennial publications. The labels for each poster must be filled in, pasted and taped at the upper right corner of the back of the posters.
2) The organizer has the right to photograph and reprint the works for publicity and promotions of the 9th Tehran International Poster Biennial.
3) Submitted works will not be returned and will be considered the property of the Iranian Museum of Graphic Design.
4) The Organizer reserves the right to refuse any project which is deemed offensive to morals, religious and national sensitivities, and/or against the rules.
5) Framed posters and/or posters glued on a hard base will not be accepted.
6) The posters should be packed safely in order to avoid any damage during transport. Damaged posters will not be accepted. The organizer does not take responsibility of any loss or damage sustained in transport.
7) Postage and other incidental expenses should be covered by the sender.
8) Please also include the file(s) of your submitted work(s) on a single CD which must be able to be operated on Mac or Windows platforms. The technical specifications of files are: A4 size, 350 dpi, CMYK and Tiff format. Submissions with defective files will be refused from the competition.
9) The selected participant's in the 9th Tehran International Poster Biennial will receive a certificate of participation as well as the event's catalogue.

The organizing committee will be entrusted to take decisions for unforeseen events.

- The prizes of Visual Arts Center (A perusal trip to Cite Internationale des-Arts, Paris, for two Iranian designers)
- Academy of Art award
- Iranian Graphic Designers Society (IGDS) award

Category B:
First prize: 6000 US$

Third prize: 2000 US$

- Academy of Art award
- National Museum of the Holy Koran award
- Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art award

- Independent Designers Society award for one selected work in each category.
